News Item 88 : Belper gets a Southbound Mainline train service

From 19th May 2014, the 17:38 Sheffield - St Pancras service will call additionally at Belper at 18:09 (Mon-Fri) providing a direct service from the Sheffield & Chesterfield. It also gives a through service to St Pancras arriving at 20:00 and passengers travelling to Leicester & London from Matlock may change at Belper or Derby.

Passengers will be able to travel between Belper and Chesterfield for £10 and Sheffield for £11 using 2 Advance single tickets
rather than as previously having to purchase a more expensive Anytime ticket.   Advance tickets are available to purchase now for travel after 19 May and when bought in advance over the internet can be collected from the Ticket machine at Belper

Other ticket prices have also been standardised with fares from Derby.

FDVL has been lobbying for two mainline trains in each direction to call at Belper and the news that the 1738 from Sheffield will stop is a first step in that process.
