11th Oct 2011 - FDVL Annual General Meeting

The sixth Annual General Meeting of the Friends of the Derwent Valley Line was held at the Brunswick Inn, Derby on Tuesday 11th October. Ernie Marchant gave his chairman's report and Harry Bird his treasurer's report. The Officers agreed to stand again and were elected as follows:

       Ernie Marchant - Chairman
       David Rayner - Secretary
       Harry Bird - Treasurer
       Robin Lumb - Membership Secretary
Vice Chairman continues to be vacant
Mark Suggitt, Director of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (above middle left) then gave a talk on the site which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. He explained that it was unusual in that unlike Stonehenge or the Taj Mahal, over 30,000 people live in communities within the world heritage site, so there was much stakeholder involvement. The Derwent Valley railway was important in linking individual locations along its length from Derby to Cromford, both of which (The Silk Mill and Cromford Mill) will be subject to major developments in the coming year. He explained the recent management changes, the consultation exercise to start on the updated management plan and the forthcoming Discovery Days
