Peak Rail Matlock Station Reopening Events - first train on 1st July and Official Opening Ceremony on 2nd July

      The Official Grand Opening

occurred on Saturday 2nd July, in glorious sunshine. Here the 10:24 EMT arrival brings the first visitors for the 11:00 Opening Ceremony.
   10:40  - crowds gather in anticipation
11:05 - the first train arrives from Rowsley to warm applause from the crowd  
  The Regional Manager of Sainsburys -  describing himself as a " Derby lad ....from Chaddesden" - addresses the crowd, before........
 .... ceremonially cutting the ribbon, watched by  Judith Twigg  (Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council), Jackie Statham (Joint MD of Peak Rail) and  Barry Hopkinson (Mayor of Matlock)  
  The wife of Jeremy Clegg, a former Chairman of Peak Rail unveils a plaque to commemorate the opening.....
 ....watched by local MP Patrick Mcloughlin  
   Passengers get ready join the train .
11:22 - The first departure (now 15mins late following the opening ceremonies) gets ready for the road.....  
   ...and departs the end of Platform 2 just as the 11:24 EMT service arives into Platform 1 !!
12:16 - The second service arrives to smaller crowds,but still attracting photo opportunities.  
  12;24 - The next EMT service arrives (disguised in former Central Trains green livery) ....
 ...and trains sit side by side for the first time.  
  12:30 Lord Phil heads the second service past Sainsburys......
 .....and the train heads North to rejoin the heritage line beyond the bridge.  
  By mid afternoon, the station planters show no sign of wilting in the warm sunshine as another service stands in Platform 2....
 ....and the loco crew from 68013 have gone for a well earned "brew" !
