13 Sep 2011 - Smart Card Update

East Midlands Trains have a franchise commitment to introduce Smart Card technology at many stations, including some in the Derby / Nottingham commuter area. EMT's parent company Stagecoach Group have already introduced Smart Cards extensively in their other franchise South West Trains in 2008 and on their entire bus fleet outside London. Card readers have now been installed on the branch at Belper & Duffield but EMT have no date yet for implementation, whilst they sort out technical issues. They do say that the cards will operate like the TrentBarton Mango cards, ie a stored money card which holders will swipe on & off at the start & finishing points in the journey to deduct the appropriate fare. This will be particularly useful for season ticket journeys

5 Oct 2011 - Details now on EMT Website at http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/Tickets/pages/smartcards.aspx
