8 - 10 April 2011 - Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Grand Opening

The opening to the public of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway from Duffield to Wirksworth, with excellent connections with the Derwent Valley Line service at Duffield should give a boost to the usage of our line, both by residents of Wirksworth travelling out & visitors inwards (see bottom of page). Friends of the Derwent Valley Line wish EVR every success & we look forward to similar connections with Peak Rail at Matlock in the future.

The opening weekend was preceded on Wednesday 6th April by the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, who arrived via a special stop of the 0925 St Pancras - Sheffield at Duffield. Read full EVR report.

After the opening ceremony at Wirksworth on Saturday 9th April, a 3-car Metro-Cammell dmu in mixed blue/green liveries departs Wirksworth on the 1020 to Duffield.

Two of the four services in each direction were steam- worked, by BR Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78019. Here it is departing Wirksworth on the 1620 to Duffield.

The former BR Test Car Iris, restored to its early BR Green livery waits at Wirksworth on the shuttle to Ravenstor.
