The Matlock branch was closed between Cromford, Matlock Bath & Matlock during this week whilst track was renewed between these stations. This work follows the earlier bridge renewal near Whatstandwell & demonstrates Network Rail's commitment to improve the standard of the line after years of neglect.

A Class 66 ready to head back through Matlock station with ballast for the renewed track. At one stage onlookers were treated to the sight of two Class 66 and one Class 60 loco on works trains in the area.

The end result - the renewed & reballasted track in Matlock Station

Looking south from Matlock on the route to Matlock Bath.

During the works, the weekday branch service terminated at Matlock Bath, with a bus shuttle from there to Matlock. This appeared tro run smoothly in contrast to the bus replacement from Duffield to Matlock on the previous Sunday, when the decision to close the A6 at Belper at the same time caused traffic chaos in that town.
