25 Feb 09 - Whatstandwell Station Footbridge overhaul

 

Network Rail has started work to overhaul the weak footbridge at Whatstandwell station & remove the weight restriction imposed in recent years.

Although the footbridge is no longer used to connect to the former up platform, it forms an important link to the bridge across the Cromford Canal & footpath to Whatstandwell village

Heavy plant in position ready to remove the central span in an overnight operation.

 

The central span was then transported off site for reburbishment.

Meanwhile the two side supports and steps were covered in protective screens for shot blasting and painting on site.

 

The completed footbridge on 22nd April. Work still continues on the adjoining footbridge over the Cromford Canal & the footpath to Whatstandwell village.
